I had one of those rare only in New York nights this past Saturday evening. It was so epic I thought I must share this. My son recently moved into the area and asked if the family, including his grandmother, aka gma, would come and see his new place and then we were going visit a rooftop bar with igloos and enjoy some beverages. I have been to a few rooftop bars in NYC but not usually in the winter and never one with igloos. This is a must-see item for locals and tourists.
The igloos are open, and the club does not take reservations. Click to visit the 230 Fifth Rooftop site.
In addition click here for igloo info. The coolest only in New York part is that patrons are encouraged to share tables and igloos with strangers. Each igloo has two long tables with comfortable benches, music, and a large flat screen tv with a video of a roaring fireplace to make things extra cozy. The ambience is incredible.
There is no need to worry about the cold temps even if you don't get into an igloo upon first arrival. Space heaters cover much of the seating area and do a fantastic job. If that does warm your heart enough, they have a full list of tasty beverages and food available. For a finishing touch the club provided super comfortable red fleece bathrobes with hoods.
Adding to the uber hipness of this club is of course the view. There are several landmark icons of the New York City skyline so close and so clear that you feel as if you could reach out and touch them. Between the encouraged mingling and warm, both literally and figuratively, the views and the tasty drinks and appetizers I would highly recommend this even if as a one-time experience. As for myself, I am certain I will return very soon. By the way, I never even got to talking about the other level. Also, well worth the visit, fully enclosed, similar majestic views. Atmosphere in the indoor level is as great as on the roof but hard to make an actual comparison as that would be like comparing apples to oranges. If you go check ahead on website to ensure igloos are open as I am not sure if they every close that section due to any number of concerns such as lightening or high winds. 230 Fifth Rooftop
